Meridark is an independent adventure travel publication built for people who actually go. Hikers, road trippers, national park explorers, and international travelers looking for straight answers backed by real experience. Independent editorial content. Honest recommendations. No guesswork.
About the Author
I’m Jake Merritt, an adventure travel writer, outdoor gear specialist, and the founder of Meridark.com.
I’m based in Denver, Colorado, and I’ve spent the last 11 years testing gear and covering ground across the American West and beyond. I’ve explored US National Parks, completed multi-day treks in Iceland, the Scottish Highlands, and Patagonia, and put more than 200 pieces of outdoor gear through real field conditions, from desert heat in the Southwest to sub-zero alpine environments in the Rockies.
I hold a Wilderness First Aid certification and a B.S. in Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado Boulder. Every piece of advice on this site comes from that experience, not from a press release.
I built Meridark because I got tired of travel content written by people who had never been to the places they were writing about. Every guide, every gear review, and every destination article here is written with one standard: would I actually use this information to plan my own trip? If the answer is yes, it gets published.
Editorial Standards
Every article on Meridark is researched carefully and written with one priority: accuracy, clarity, and practical value for readers.
I update content regularly to reflect current conditions, pricing, and access changes. That said, travel is unpredictable. Regulations shift, trails close, and prices change without notice. I always recommend confirming critical details directly with official sources, park websites, or local operators before finalizing any travel plans.
You will never find exaggerated recommendations, misleading claims, or content created without putting readers first. Editorial opinions are never influenced by commercial partnerships, and every collaboration must meet the same editorial standards as every other article on this site.
